His high school years were marked by active participation in sports, fostering leadership and teamwork skills that would later prove instrumental in his career journey. After completing his education at Clear Lake High School in 1991, he pursued academic pursuits at the University of Texas in Austin, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Biochemistry. His thirst for knowledge led him to achieve a Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Polymers from Florida State University in 2000, laying a solid foundation for his professional achievements. His career commenced at Mosaic Technologies in Waltham, Massachusetts, where he excelled as a Senior Scientist. In this role, he developed a novel 3-D biopolymer substrate for microarray fabrication, marking the beginning of a series of significant professional milestones. He then advanced through various roles at Matrix Technologies, Apogent Technologies, and Fisher Scientific, continually enhancing his scientific expertise and leadership skills. In 2005, Dr. Patterson joined Agilent Technologies as a Genomics Field Applications Scientist. He rapidly ascended through the ranks, becoming a Product Specialist and then a District Manager. His exceptional contributions to the company were recognized with the prestigious President's Club award in 2009 and 2014. Between 2015 and 2022, he served as an Associate Vice President within Agilent's Diagnostics and Genomics Group, leading three commercial channels and founding the Corporate Accounts channel.
